Ask OVME: Should I Try A Dermatologist Treatment for Under-Eye Bags?

We hate to say it, but the dark circles and puffiness taking over your under-eye area may be more than what an eye cream and a full night’s sleep can fix. There are a ton of recommendations on the internet for how to restore the fragile skin under your eyes to its youthful state, from creams, serums and masks to sleeping positions and dietary changes, but they may not be enough to create a lasting change.

The reality is that a puffy under-eye area is largely genetic—and if a lack of sleep isn’t causing it, then more sleep won’t be enough to fix it, either. If you’re hoping for a long lasting dermatologist treatment for under-eye bags, you may want to consider Restylane Lyft injections.

Why get Restylane Lyft dermatologist treatment for under-eye bags

The most common complaint we hear with under-eye bags is that our patients feel like they look older and more tired than they actually are. This type of puffiness, bruising and wrinkling is usually inherited, and then made worse by natural ageing processes. But fillers like Restylane Lyft (or Restylane-L) can help turn back the clock.

Restylane-L is an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid (or HA)—which occurs naturally in the body and gives skin its youthful plumpness. It’s both hypoallergenic and safely metabolized over time, making this particular injectable both safe and extremely effective.

And if you change your mind or don’t like your results for any reason, hyaluronic acid fillers are completely reversible with an injection of hyaluronidase, another naturally occurring enzyme that can dissolve HA injections.

What to expect from dermatologist treatment for under-eye bags

When you come into OVME for Restylane-L injections, you may be surprised at just how quick and easy the procedure is—not to mention painless.

Your practitioner will use a pencil to mark the area under your eyes (but don’t worry, it comes off!). Then they’ll apply a numbing cream, give it a few minutes to set, and then get to work! They’ll carefully inject the filler just below your skin and use a finger to gently smooth it into place. It doesn’t hurt, but you may be able to feel the area beginning to plup slightly.

You’ll be in and out in just a few minutes, see immediate results, and be able to go right back to work (but if you use it as an excuse to take the day off, we won’t tell). There’s no bruising or post-procedural pain—just a smoother, improved under-eye area.

You may need to come back a week or two after your initial treatment, just so we can see how things look and make sure you’re happy with your results. Once everything settles, we’ll be able to tell if you need a tiny bit more filler or additional smoothing.

One of the other things we love about Restylane-L injections is that the results are long-lasting. Most injections in other areas of the face last somewhere between three to six months, but it’s not uncommon for Restylane-L results to last for a year or more (though everyone is different). That’s because the area under your eyes is fairly immobile, so your body takes longer to absorb the hyaluronic acid than it would with a lip or cheek filler.
