Kybella 101: Everything You Need to Know About Kybella Double Chin Removal Treatment
How long does Kybella take to work?
Typically, Kybella users report noticeable effects as soon as four weeks after their first treatment. However, it can take up to 12 weeks, or two sessions, to see improvements in some cases. Results also increase with time, and maximum results are often seen at the six-month mark and are long-lasting. At OVME, your Kybella treatment will come with custom recommendations, treatment expectations, and more to ensure that you understand the procedure and know when you can expect results.
Which is better, Kybella or CoolSculpting?
Kybella and CoolSculpting both address concerns over the chin, jaw, and neck area, but each has its own benefits. If you’re interested in treating a double chin very specifically, we suggest you try Kybella treatments. While Kybella is more expensive and requires a longer recovery time, the results are long-lasting, or often permanent, and very specific to the under-chin area.
CoolSculpting, on the other hand, can address a larger area, such as the neck, legs, butt, chin, or arms, to topically treat unwanted fat. The recovery time is typically shorter, but regular maintenance is required to maintain the best results. If you want to learn more about CoolSculpting, click here.
At OVME, we make custom recommendations for each patient, and we are happy to provide a free consultation to ensure you get the results that you’re looking for.
How long does Kybella swelling last?
First things first: Swelling caused by Kybella is a good thing. It means your treatments have begun to break down the fat cells. During the swelling, there may also be bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness (like small, green peas) in the treatment area. These side effects are temporary and can last anywhere from two days to three weeks, but it is most common for the swelling to peak at the 24-hour post-treatment mark.
What to eat after Kybella?
After Kybella, we recommend not using steroids or other anti-inflammatory medications such as Aleve, aspirin, Tylenol, or Advil for at least 48 hours after treatment. This helps avoid bruising post treatment and ensures a better recovery process. We also recommend that you refrain from alcohol consumption, exercising, or salty bards in the 48 hours following the procedure.
How many sessions of Kybella do you need?
At OVME, we recommend at least two treatments of Kybella to ensure the best possible results, regardless of your goals. Any additional sessions of Kybella would be recommended on a personal basis. If you have questions about your personal goals, please do not hesitate to contact us about a consultation.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is used to sculpt submental fat, otherwise known as the “double chin”. Submental fullness can impact a broad range of adults, not just individuals who are overweight. It commonly affects men and women of average weight. The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Injectable Kybella destroys fat cells permanently for a lasting and natural result.
Does it hurt?
The sub-mental area will be cleansed and numbed prior to the procedure to minimize discomfort. Kybella is then injected directly into the fatty tissue. The injection sensation is commonly described as a “pinch and sting”. Significant swelling and discomfort may last for up to 72-hours post procedure.
Kybella is a technique-sensitive treatment, it is important for you to choose an experienced provider for the job. Dr. S. Mark McKenna is a national trainer for Allergan. Dr. McKenna and his team of OVME Certified Providers are ranked in the top 1% of practices in the nation by volume and are historically acknowledged as one of the largest injectable accounts in the southeastern United States.
The results are permanent. When injected into the fat under your chin, Kybella causes destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic goals are achieved, retreatment with Kybella™ is not expected.
Kybella results are seen within 2-4 treatments, sometimes sooner. Treatments are spaced every 4-6 weeks.
The safety profile is well characterized. Kybella has gone through over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients worldwide, of which over 1,600 have been treated with Kybella.
Yes, you can receive Kybella the same day you receive other injectable treatments such as Botox, Voluma, and Restylane Silk.
